How to Make a Patio Bench Out of Wood
A wooden patio bench is a beautiful and functional addition to any backyard or patio. It's a great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors, and it can also be used for extra seating when entertaining guests. Building a wooden patio bench is a relatively easy project that can be completed in a weekend.
To make a wooden patio bench, you will need the following materials:
- 2x6 pressure-treated lumber for the seat and back
- 2x4 pressure-treated lumber for the legs and arms
- Wood screws
- Wood glue
- Sandpaper
- Stain or paint (optional)
Once you have gathered your materials, you can follow these steps to build your patio bench:
- Cut the lumber to size. The following are the dimensions for the individual components of the bench:
- Seat: 6 pieces of 2x6, each cut to a length of 60"
- Back: 2 pieces of 2x6, each cut to a length of 24"
- Legs: 4 pieces of 2x4, each cut to a length of 18"
- Arms: 2 pieces of 2x4, each cut to a length of 24"
- Assemble the seat. Apply wood glue to the end of one of the 2x6 seat boards and attach it to the end of another 2x6 seat board using wood screws. Repeat this process until all six seat boards are attached. Sand the edges of the seat to smooth them out.
- Attach the back to the seat. Apply wood glue to the top edge of the seat and attach the 2x6 back boards using wood screws. Sand the edges of the back to smooth them out.
- Attach the legs to the seat. Apply wood glue to the bottom edge of the seat and attach the 2x4 legs using wood screws. Make sure that the legs are evenly spaced and that the bench is level.
- Attach the arms to the back. Apply wood glue to the top edge of the back and attach the 2x4 arms using wood screws. Make sure that the arms are evenly spaced and that they are parallel to each other.
- Sand the bench. Sand the entire bench to smooth out any rough edges. You can also round the edges of the bench for a more finished look.
- Stain or paint the bench. If desired, you can stain or paint the bench to match your outdoor décor. Allow the stain or paint to dry completely before using the bench.
Your wooden patio bench is now complete! Enjoy relaxing and entertaining on your new bench for years to come.
