How To Paint A Patio Table
A fresh coat of paint can give your old, tired patio table a new lease on life. However, prepping and painting a patio table requires more steps than painting other surfaces, so it's important to know what you're getting into before you start.
Materials You'll Need
- TSP (trisodium phosphate) cleaner
- Sandpaper or sanding sponge (120- and 220-grit)
- Tack cloth
- Primer
- Exterior latex paint
- Polyurethane
- Paintbrush or roller
- Gloves
Prepping Your Patio Table
1. Clean the table with TSP cleaner and rinse thoroughly.
2. Sand the table with 120-grit sandpaper to remove any loose paint or rust.
3. Wipe down the table with a tack cloth to remove any dust.
Painting Your Patio Table
1. Apply a coat of primer to the table. Allow the primer to dry completely.
2. Apply two coats of exterior latex paint to the table. Allow each coat to dry completely before applying the next.
3. Apply a coat of polyurethane to the table to protect the finish. Allow the polyurethane to dry completely.
